Absence Management reports are ‘critical’, say HR Software experts

Absence management reports may not sound like the most exciting read.

However, the absence of an easy way to produce them has proved a winner for software experts Codel, who this week celebrate 10 years of helping UK and international businesses tackle absence challenges with their absence management software, Activ Absence.

It’s been a massive year for the team, whose 10th anniversary coincides with their best ever year which has seen turnover double and the company’s welsh workforce triple. They now have thousands of users in 33 countries – and growing.

Absence management expert and Commercial Director Adrian Lewis explained why the company has proved so successful:

“Most businesses still manage staff holiday planning and sickness absence with spreadsheets, but in recent years the cost of managing absence has fallen under the microscope. Businesses assume that staff only take one or two sick days per year, because they don’t have tools to run accurate absence management reports. Once they do even a manual absence report, they are shocked by the results.  However, once armed with data, they know they need to do something about it.

“For those with no access to in-house absence management reports, the CIPD Annual Absence Report gives organisations an annual wake up call. Businesses are starting to realise they need this critical information and their in-house tools cannot output the absence reports they need to regain control over absence.

“There is a growing appreciation of the value of absence management tools.  In fact, we’ve recently had to increase our own staffing levels to meet demand.”

The company also received an unexpected ‘birthday gift’ in the form of a prestigious ISO 27001 accreditation, which the company have worked hard to achieve. Adrian added:

“We’ve always worked hard to maintain data security standards, as we also do custom software development for national Governments, so it’s nice to see that recognised – however the timing was sooner than expected and coming in our 10th year anniversary week, it was very welcome.”
