Competition heating up in hunt for UK’s best office breakout area

The search for the UK’s best office breakout area is heating up, as entries flood in for the inaugural Office Breakout of the Year competition, with an outstanding entry already leading the way.

Looking for the most inspirational office-based breakout space that the UK has to offer, the competition has seen an abundance of entries coming in, including ones from London, Oxford, Cheltenham, Edinburgh and more.

A particularly choice entry has come in from SEC Group in Stevenage, which looks to be the current leader of the pack, and consists of a pool table, lounge area, breakfast bar, kitchen and television, all of which has been exquisitely designed to create a relaxing and inspiring atmosphere.

Andy Beresford, MD of HomeLeisureDirect.com, the company orchestrating the competition said: “Providing a workspace that’s conducive to employee wellbeing is becoming an increasingly important focus for employers. With awareness around mental health ever increasing, and given the amount of time we spend in the office, more and more are looking to do what they can to support workplace welfare.”

He continued: “We see many businesses in our line of work that go above and beyond, and we’re keen to hold those up as examples for others to follow.”

Home Leisure Direct, which supplies its equipment to offices across the country, is calling on UK businesses and their employees to nominate their work breakout area for the prize – with the eventual winner receiving a £3,000 contribution to a teambuilding activity of their choice, as well as being able to boast that their place of work is home to the Office Breakout of the Year.

The competition was inspired by the findings of a recent study commissioned by HomeLeisureDirect.com which – amongst other statistics – found that 1 in 2 office workers don’t believe management care about their working environment.

Andy continued: “The entry from SEC Group is fantastic and it’s an excellent example of an employer that’s proud of the working environment they offer. As an early entry, it’s a great one to set the pace. But are there better ones out there?”

The Office Breakout of the Year competition has a closing date for submissions of midnight on Monday, 4th March 2019. Entrants are asked to submit high-resolution pictures and videos of their office’s breakout area to HomeLeisureDirect.com via its website. From the submitted entries, the HomeLeisureDirect.com team will select 25 finalists, which will then have their office breakouts published on the website, where the public will be allowed to vote for their favourite entry.

Andy concluded: “The entries we’ve received so far are starting to offer a fascinating glimpse of some of the best offices that the UK has to offer. It’s a fantastic opportunity for businesses to showcase their employee-centric outlook – and will see them standout as employers of note for potential talent if they go on to eventually win it.”
