Move over ‘X’ Factor, Toby’s got talent!

Hot on the heels of Matt Terry winning ‘X Factor’ this weekend, carvery restaurant chain Toby revealed their own in house stars, naming the winners of its very first ‘Toby’s Got Talent’ competition.

Toby Carvery introduced the internal competition in early 2016 as a way of recognising talent across its entire portfolio of restaurants, and as a way to further engage with its employees nationwide. This competition gives Toby Carvery the chance to shine the spotlight on the dedicated workers who are not only the public face of the brand, but those that work hard behind the scenes to provide customers with its famous ‘Four Roast Carvery’.

The competition saw Toby team members from all 172 restaurants go head to head across the UK, showcasing their skills in a series of regional competitions.

At the end of July, Toby Carvery announced the 24 regional winners and invited them to go head to head at the Grand Final hosted at the Mitchells & Butlers Head Office in Birmingham.

With two final categories up for contention – ‘Server of the Year’ & ‘Carver of the Year’, the contestants were put through their paces over several rounds, which included a carve-off, a quick-fire sales round and a ‘Who’s Who’ guest profile quiz.

After deliberation from the judges, Emma Donohue from Toby Carvery Lowton was crowned ‘Server of the Year’, and Chris Head from Toby Carvery Harlow was crowned ‘Carver of the Year’ and both received £1000 in recognition of their achievement.

Martin Gosling, brand operations director of Toby Carvery, says

“We wanted to find a way to recognise the hard work and commitment all of our employees have and show every day when they come to work. Having an interactive nationwide competition like ‘Toby’s Got Talent’ is a great way of getting the entire team, both front of house and back of house members involved and rooting for each other.

“Toby Carvery is well known for being ‘Home of the Roast’ but we also make sure that all of our staff, from front of house servers and bartenders to back of house kitchen staff are recognised for all of the hard work they put in to give our guests the very best experience, and this competition is the perfect way to do this.”
