NEBOSH’s Continued International Growth Reflected in Most Recent Trustee Appointments

NEBOSH has announced new appointments to its Board of Trustees including, for the first time, an international course provider: Tonia Sulkhova. Two Independent Trustees, David Morgan and Bill Nixon, have also been appointed.

NEBOSH Chief Executive, Teresa Budworth, commented:

“With our international presence growing year on year, it is vital that our Board understand our overseas markets. 70% of our students take our qualifications in one of 120+ countries outside of the UK. Having Tonia as a Trustee will provide that international perspective at the very highest level of our organisation.”

Tonia Sulkhova has spent much of her 20-year career leading the delivery of safety, health and environmental management for multinational organisations within the oil and gas industry. Having worked on a variety of projects internationally, including in Russia and the Middle East, Tonia has achieved the highest SHE certification in both Canada and the United States; she is a Registered Canadian Safety Professional and a Certified Safety Professional in the US. Tonia also co-founded the first Russian-based NEBOSH accredited course provider, acting as its lead tutor and assessor for a wide range of courses up to Diploma level. A recognised authority on safety systems, her expertise is being utilised by a wide range of industries.

Dr Bill Nixon was a Director on the Board of the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), part of the UK HSE (Health and Safety Executive), for many years. During his time at HSL he was involved in successfully commercialising some of the Laboratory’s work. His last position in HSE, prior to his recent retirement, was as HSE’s International Director, developing high-level relationships with overseas governments and agencies and also working closely with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office network of embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

As an Independent Trustee and the board’s champion on IT issues, David Morgan will offer NEBOSH his extensive knowledge of change management, project management and IT strategy. David is a highly respected global consultant and troubleshooter, with a strong reputation for delivering successful IT programmes.

Teresa continued:

“It’s vital that our Board of Trustees represents all aspects of our work and with their expertise across a range of sectors, including construction and utilities, and connections with HSE, our newest members will help challenge and develop our thinking in key areas. Our Board of Trustees fulfil the vital role of monitoring the performance and delivery of our business plan. This ensures accountability and compliance and maintains fiscal oversight, all of which contribute to the achievement of high standards of governance. We very much look forward to working with them.”
